GENEVA (Sputnik) — UN’s Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura does not plan to resume Syrian proximity talks before mid-June, a diplomatic source told Sputnik on Thursday.
"The special envoy plans to resume intra-Syrian talks not earlier than in mid-June," the source said in Geneva.
De Mistura told journalists earlier today that negotiations between the Syrian government and opposition factions could restart despite the holy month of Ramadan, which ends on July 5.
The UN mediator stressed that if some people could fight during this time, there would also be those willing to negotiate.
